每年一度在國慶黃金周舉行的北歐中國音樂節，是國內其中一個最受樂迷關注的活動，筆者參與的本屆北歐中國音樂節，也在剛過去的十月四至六日完滿結束。北歐中國音樂節(NOTCH)，即指北歐+中國(Nordic + China)，所以除來自北歐五國(挪威、瑞典、芬蘭、冰島、丹麥)的樂隊，也有當地本土樂隊參與演出。北歐中國音樂節能夠在短短三年內，迅速得到中港澳樂迷注意，主要原因除了是遠道而來、難得一見的國外樂隊，還有它的舉行地點。
北歐中國音樂節為期三天，分別同時在三個大城市中舉行，包括北京、上海及廣州，所以也吸引了鄰近地區的樂迷前往欣賞。以筆者欣賞的廣州站為例，在三天裡，分別遇到來自香港、深圳及廣西的樂迷。一個音樂節，在當地打開知名度後，進一步目標無疑是如何吸引外地觀眾，而北歐中國音樂節的答案，則是重量級的演出陣容。
當然，「重量級」這個形容詞不止是對獨立、非主流樂迷而言，單以樂隊陣容來說，放眼歐洲的音樂節，很難找到能與本次音樂節相提並論的。首晚的演出包括芬蘭的民謠女歌手Islaja、電子樂手Vladislav Delay、舞曲電子團體Mi Ni Ma、自由爵士樂團The Thing及廣州的無了期樂隊。當晚的演出場地為佛山某興建中樓盤的廣場，該樓盤當然是贊助商之一。由於是免費派發門票的原故，觀眾數目比預期中多出許多。
(同行友人稱他們為「廣州Stone Roses」，不過我不認同就是。)
首先表演的是被稱為「廣州本土自行安排演出史上最多」的無了期，反映著廣州社會的粵語歌詞，爽快的結他搖滾樂讓在場大多數觀眾十分雀躍。無了期的表演結束後，對專程來欣賞一眾北歐樂隊的觀眾，音樂會才正式開始。
緊接表演的是Islaja，由主音Merja Kokkonen和結他/貝斯手Jukka Raisanen組成，演唱的歌曲以新專輯Ulual Yyy為主，和其餘兩張專輯部分的歌曲。Islaja冷調的迷幻民謠，帶著北歐音樂獨特的陰鬱、空靈感覺，國外樂評人將之形容為「芬蘭森林歌謠」(Finnish Forest Folk)。新專輯雖較以往來得成熟、音樂元素豐富，較以前多了一點女性魅惑，但Islaja的音樂依舊散發出一種古老吉普賽民謠的氣息，其充滿影像感的灰暗調子，可能會讓初次接觸的人，只會感到一陣詭譎，就如場內不少觀眾的反應。現場表演比專輯來得更有感染力，當演繹到首張專輯Meritie中孩子氣十足的歌曲時，Merja會吹奏口琴及各種聲響玩具。而貝斯手當晚投入的演出，也為歌曲添加了不少搖滾的元素，與專輯版本的有所不同，帶來不少驚喜。論到現場表演中的即興，之後出場的The Thing就是箇中能手。
團員分別來自瑞典及挪威的The Thing，現場演出如樂評所說的火力十足，甫踏上舞台，即展現出力量澎湃的爵士樂，貝斯手Ingebrigt Haker Flaten與鼓手Paal Nilssen-Love充滿爆發性的節拍，辛辣非常的薩克司風手Mats Gustafsson，帶領觀眾進入一個遊走搖滾、爵士的亢奮境界，The Thing粗獷的爵士樂，像硬蕊搖滾般挑起人們的原始慾望。The Thing的爆發力激烈得讓人感到刺耳，三人解放出的即興噪音，猶如日本迷幻搖滾團體Acid Mothers Temple一樣狂放。The Thing 只演出了二十多分鐘，對大多數觀眾來說當然是意猶未盡，他們毋庸置疑的現場爆發力，是筆者看過最震撼的爵士演出。
第三組演出單位，芬蘭的Vladislav Delay (原名Sasu Ripatti)，是一位擁有五個化名的電子樂手(最廣為人知的該是Luomo)，從當晚的表演來說，他更像一名DJ。但他的音樂比很多DJ 來得複雜、聰明，並不是單純的示範如何將歌曲連接在一起，他的音樂亦不叫人手舞足蹈。他在舞台上，即席進行樂曲重組，在漸變的節拍中，將不同的節奏、原創的聲音取樣作現場混音。或者，該說他用電子的形式，去作現場「演奏」。Vladislav Delay的音樂，最注重氣氛和細節，歌曲在不等轉變中，Vladislav Delay 將各種聲音的轉變，控制在特定的氣氛下進行，這些轉折都是很細膩而緩慢，可惜，空曠的廣場似乎不是聽這類音樂的最佳場地。Vladislav Delay是一名DJ，不過，他是讓你的大腦跳舞。緊接出場的是他的同鄉Mi Na Ma，由於筆者對機械化的舞曲沒有興趣，所以提早離場。
在回程的巴士上，我才記起，從下午由澳門出發，到音樂會結束，我已有半天沒吃過任何東西，所謂「廢寢忘食」，原來就是這樣一回事。第一天的演出，讓我對第二天演出的Supersilent，也是此行的最大目的，更加期待。
